Your Support Matters
For Associations of and for Persons with Disabilities (APD), this message is deeply relevant. Inclusion is not an abstract concept; it is lived out in homes, workplaces, schools, streets, and community spaces. When we say “MiAPD starts with me,” we acknowledge that everyone has a role to play in breaking down barriers and building dignity, respect, and opportunity for persons with disabilities.
At ,Mossel Bay APD the #MiAPD message is not just a slogan — it is a daily practice. For decades, Mossel Bay APD has worked alongside persons with disabilities and their families to promote independence, social participation, and equal citizenship. Their work reflects the belief that people with disabilities are not passive recipients of care, but active contributors to their community.
Mossel Bay APD focuses on social development, empowerment, and advocacy. This includes skills development, community awareness, support programmes, and partnerships that strengthen inclusion at grassroots level. Through these efforts, the organisation helps ensure that disability is not a reason for exclusion, but a shared responsibility for understanding and accommodation.
As APDs move towards significant milestones — including nearly 90 years of service nationally — #MiAPD invites communities to pause and reflect. It asks important questions:
How do I speak about disability?
How do I respond when someone needs support?
How do my actions either include or exclude?
These questions matter because inclusion is shaped by everyday behaviour. Accessibility is not only about ramps and policies; it is also about attitudes, patience, respect, and willingness to learn. #MiAPD challenges the idea that inclusion is “someone else’s job” and replaces it with shared ownership.
The strength of the #MiAPD movement lies in its simplicity. It does not require perfection — it requires participation. When individuals, families, businesses, and organisations commit to inclusion, communities become stronger and more resilient.
Mossel Bay APD stands as a local example of what is possible when inclusion is taken seriously and practiced consistently. By encouraging people to share their #MiAPD moments, the organisation creates space for real stories, real impact, and real connection.
Inclusion starts with awareness, grows through action, and is sustained by community. #MiAPD reminds us that change does not begin “out there.”
It begins with me.
