Your Support Matters
On 16 September, 20 children from Mossel Bay APD’s iLitha Lethu Day Care Centre took part in the Mossel Bay Sports and Recreation Festival at the Barcelona Indoor Centre in KwaNonqaba.
For these children, the day was about more than recreational activities. It was an opportunity to step outside their usual environment, take part alongside other children and experience their community in a different way.
Each child received a certificate of participation, recognising their involvement and giving them something meaningful to take home and be proud of.
When children with disabilities are given opportunities to participate in community events, the impact reaches beyond the children themselves. They gain confidence through new experiences, develop social and communication skills, and learn that they have a place in community activities. At the same time, other children, families and community members have the opportunity to interact with children with disabilities, helping to build greater understanding and acceptance.
These shared experiences help create a community where disability is not a reason to be left out, but simply one part of the diversity within our community.
We are proud of our iLitha Lethu children and grateful to everyone who made it possible for them to be part of this special day. Their participation is a reminder that inclusion becomes meaningful when every child has the opportunity to show up, take part and be seen as a valued member of the community.
