Your Support Matters
At Mossel Bay APD, Youth Day is more than a public holiday. It is an opportunity to celebrate the value, ability and potential of every young person, including young people with disabilities.
This year, our Youth Day theme was "Every Young Person Has Value, Ability and Potential." The theme reflects our commitment to empowering people with disabilities and focusing on their strengths, talents and opportunities rather than their limitations.
Throughout June, Mossel Bay APD hosted activities that encouraged participation, learning and personal growth while celebrating the unique abilities of the people we serve.
Our Day Care children took part in a vibrant Colour Run filled with laughter, excitement and energy. The activity encouraged confidence, social interaction and a sense of belonging. The smiles and enthusiasm on display were a reminder that every child deserves opportunities to learn, grow and participate fully in their community.
Following the Colour Run, the children participated in a seed-planting activity. As they carefully planted seeds, they learned valuable lessons about responsibility, patience and nurturing growth. While the seeds were small, they carried a powerful message. Just as a seed needs care, support and time to flourish, so do young people need encouragement and opportunities to reach their full potential.
At our Adult Day Care Centre, participants celebrated Youth Day through a practical gardening activity by planting seeds for a vegetable garden. The project promotes teamwork, responsibility and hands-on learning while creating opportunities for participants to develop new skills and experience a sense of achievement. The vegetable garden will continue to grow in the months ahead, providing both practical benefits and valuable learning experiences.
The symbolism behind these activities reflects the heart of our Youth Day theme. Whether young or old, every person has unique abilities and untapped potential. Growth takes time, but with support, opportunity and determination, remarkable things can happen.
The theme of the day was captured in a simple but meaningful message:
"As this plant grows, so do I."
This message reflects the journey of many of the people we serve. Through support, skills development, meaningful activities and community inclusion, Mossel Bay APD strives to create opportunities for people with disabilities to discover their strengths, build confidence and achieve greater independence.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who supported the various activities held throughout June in celebration of Youth Day. Each activity was an opportunity to recognise the value, ability and potential of people with disabilities and to strengthen the spirit of inclusion within the Mossel Bay community. Together, we continue to plant seeds of hope, opportunity and growth for the future.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to creating a society where every young person is recognised for their value, celebrated for their abilities and supported to achieve their full potential
